Trip to Princeton U
Trip to Princeton U Three-day weekends seem like the perfect opportunity to catch-up on work and get ahead for the next week. Umm right it never really works out that way. Instead, you have one more day to procrastinate and have fun! With this reality in mind, I went to Princeton University with my friend, Maria 08, to visit one of my best friends from high school. Princeton has 4,600 undergrads, which is only slightly more than MITs 4,000. It is the fourth oldest university, chartered in 1746, compared to MITs founding in 1861. Though both universities share a similar profile in terms of numbers, I found that they are very, very different. We arrived on Friday night, after 7.5 hours of traveling (via T, Greyhound, walking, and NJ transit) and basically crashed. Saturday morning, we ate the best oatmeal ever at Small World Coffee, a sweet independent cafe that offers a refreshing alternative to corporate Starbucks. A little later, we went rock climbing! Katherine is an avid climber and an employee at the wall, so we had a grand ole time. MIT has a wall, too, in Walker Memorial, but its not as tall and consequently nobody needs to belay you. Belaying is basically when someone holds the rope that is connected to your harness. Your partner stops you from falling two stories if you lose your grip on the wall (!). Anyway, after an hour my fingers were trembling and my arms felt like spaghetti, so I sat and watched the pros while listening to the opera music blasting from the boom box. Katherine the climber: Melis the wanna-be climber: Later that night, I saw my friend from elementary school who is now a freshman at Princeton and is hosting a show called The Freshman on mtvU. He deferred for a year to be in Andrew Lippas Broadway-bound A Little Princess. Afterwards, we went to a hilarious improv show and hung out. On the way back, we stopped by NYC and had a chance to walk around. It was SO cold and we had the genius idea to walk from Penn Station (34th street) to the eyeglass store where I wanted to buy some new frames (72nd street) while carrying a heavy duffle bag. It was totally worth it, as I am a proud owner of new glasses! We also met up with my cousin, who lives in the city, over a yummy lunch at Le Pain Quotiden. Yummm, check out the Tuscan platter. Now Im happy to be back at the Tute! Time to get back to business.

Then there are people like the National Rifle Association that strongly believe in the second amendment and they also believeâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Former associate justice John Paul Stevens, who has served in the Supreme Court from 1975 to 2010, thinks that we should change the second amendment in order to protect people from gun violent. In his book called ââ¬Å"Six Amendmen ts: How and Why We Should Change the Constitution.â⬠He suggest that the people should replace the second Amendment so that it says the right of the people to keep and bear arms [when serving in the militia] shall not be infringed. What that means is that only people that are serving in the state militia are allowed to have gun. The reason Stevens wants to make this particular change to the second amendment so that Congress will stop arguing about whether or not the government has the power to regulate gun control and do what they think is best for the public. In other words, John Paul Stevens wants the government to have full control over the right to bear arms so that they can decide on weather what person is allowed to have guns. Stevens say that by doing this, there would be less crime committed by firearms. Not all of the people agree with John Paul Stevensââ¬â¢s idea to change the second amendment. National Rifle Association or the NRA for short say that in order to u nderstand the true meaning of the Second Amendment, it is important to understand the men who wrote and ratified it, and the issues they faced in creating the Constitution. United States VS Soviet Union A Fight To The Death free essay sample
Every year the eighth grade at my school participates in a two-week long project. The class is split up into two teams: the Americans and the Soviets. Our goal is to win our teachers over with information, propaganda, and bribes. At the end of the two weeks all the teachers vote for one of the countries and whichever country gets the most votes wins and doesnââ¬â¢t have to take the last world studies test of the year. While reading about this project you are probably thinking it sounds like a good idea. I know I did when I was told about it, but I was so terribly wrong. Iââ¬â¢m not quite sure what is making this project so much more intense than all the others. Maybe itââ¬â¢s the human nature to be competitive. But since the project has started, people have become completely disrespectful and immoral to each other just because they are on opposite teams. We will write a custom essay sample on United States VS Soviet Union: A Fight To The Death or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Iââ¬â¢ve seen fights break out, friends turning against each other, and people losing sleep over this project. My best friend, who is on the other team, made up a song about how no one should trust me or any of the other people on my side. Itââ¬â¢s just a huge race to try to be better than everyone else. People are buying new clothes, making dozens of posters (huge waste of paper), and bribing teachers with all kinds of things to try to win this. One girl even bought a teacher several new outfits for her soon-to-be-born baby. That kind of behavior is putting less wealthy people to shame because they know they canââ¬â¢t do as much. Frankly, I think our school would do well without this project and if you have ever considered starting a project like this, donââ¬â¢t. It turns people into prejudice animals and it will cause stress among everyone.
